Naturally Hooked Bulk Foods
“My wife Tamara and I know firsthand how expensive it is to feed a family unprocessed and organic food. We strongly believe that everybody should have access to good food.”
We sat down with Jason McGinn from Naturally Hooked to see what it means to Live, Love Local...
1. How long have you been in business? What was your inspiration in creating such an incredible space for people to stop and recharge over a coffee or sensational smoothie?
We opened on New year’s Eve 2016. Our inspiration has come from the research into good food/living my wife started about 5 or 6 years ago. The initial thoughts we had were actually for a Pilates studio itself with a coffee shop and then a standalone bulk food/organic store. After a lot of research we decided to incorporate a small café into our plans. We have been drinking smoothies at home for a couple of years now, always experimenting with new ones. So the inspiration for our smoothies started there and have evolved into the menu you currently enjoy.
2. What an incredible way to spend your working hours, encouraging health and wellness by offering nutritious and organic produce, food and smoothies.
What is it about what you do that gives you ‘that fire in the belly’ feeling and keeps you at it everyday?
The number one driver for me is to grow a brand that people recognize as great value, high quality wholefoods. My wife Tamara and I know firsthand how expensive it is to feed a family unprocessed and organic food. We strongly believe that everybody should have access to good food. Organic food can be more expensive than processed foods, but we have kept our prices low while maintaining very high quality.
3. What’s the hardest part of what you do?
This is hands down the best job I have ever had. I don’t dislike any part of it. The hardest thing to manage is staff. Rostering and filling gaps due to sickness or staff holidays is probably the most difficult thing to manage. Work/life balance is something else to be wary of, even when I’m not at work my mind is constantly turning over.
4. Our campaign is called Live, Love Local. When you hear these three words to you what do they mean to you?
I love these three words. We live local and try to support local business wherever we can. The closer the better. We have great working relationships with local business and we have a local community of our own that support us. Without this support we wouldn’t be here. We support local schools where we can and we also try to support local charities where possible.
